A Small Step To The Rest Of My Life.

Alan Wake 2 (Honestly, one of the best horror-thriller games I’ve ever played and I hate horror.)

Summer Vacation goes by so fast, doesn’t it? You make plans to meet up with friends, go out to new places, re-explore the city you know or even go visit a whole new place.

Well, at least that’s what it used to be like during school. And after First Year of college, hehe. So, what happened in the second? Well, you see. The reason for the title is this very story. This time, Summer was to be spend furthering my chances to a better life (Yes, I say that with the most amazing dramatic voice). I had to find internships to spend my time home, working and learning. All so that the industry would come knocking on my door….

Yes, it was definitely as easy as you can imagine, trying to find internships, ones that would actually make a valuable impact on your skills and experience. Combing through various posting, companies, employers, etc across Linkedin. Definitely a whole lotta fun.

Either way after searching for quite a while, I was saved by my dad. He introduced me to a company that he’d been working with for a long time and it lined up with my interests and skills. You can only imagine the breath of relief I let out plus the excitement that started to slowly build up.

Enter Ether Design.

A multi-disciplinary design studio based in Bangalore.

A place filled with more talented people than I’ve seen in college. (I am deeeefinitely kidding about college)

A place where I wanted to make sure my skills grew.

A place that I wanted to have fun even midst all the work.

And all of this….. did happen.

Having the chance to spend almost two months, learning, working, experiencing a whole new side that I had never seen was definitely worth it. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel as nervous as I thought I’d be when I first went in. I was interested in how I’d be spending my days here and what I’d learn… and spend and learn I did.

Honestly, my time there went by a lot faster than I expected. Even if I did have something to work on everyday and you’d expect me to burn out a little. Through it all, I had a whole lotta fun.

Meeting so many new people, learning from them, their experiences, their personal opinions and more opened up my mind quite a bit.

Look, I can go into detail, talking about what all I did there, what I worked on, but in this generation, people find reading boring enough. All that aside, my time there was great. It may have just been a simple internship, something that a lot of people just consider to be another step up the ladder and while I get that, don’t just file it away as that.

Whether your first internship was good or bad, it is something to remember. Might have been your actual first step into the corporate world like me, might be something you’re used to. Still something worth remembering and for me? Ether Design fulfilled that.

You may be thinking that I’m over-acting but I’m serious. It was a great start. Others may have worked at industry leading companies, even earned and after all that, I’m good. It was a great time and worth it all.

(Plus I’m definitely writing such amazing words for them so that I deeeeefinitely won’t come back and ask for some help or a job or anything else hehe.)

I know it’s been a while since I last wrote here on Medium. A lot’s happened. A lot with too many bad choices. Too many mistakes that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Don’t worry, it has been mostly sorted. A few odd ends or so. But that isn’t going to distract me nor stop me.

Keep on keeping on.

Thanks for reading.
